The Ghetto

Posted by TravisNN
While cruising the streets of Goldengai it can be hard to choose the right bar to walk into. With over 280 independent watering holes scattered around the dark alleys behind Shinjuku proper it can be exciting finding the right place to take a seat. DSC_0199 One in particular kept calling out to us as we walked by the welcoming front door. DSC_0212 Inside we learned about its history. Apparently the name is a reference to the old Jewish housing projects and has since taken on a different connotation. More a reference to community by seclusion than to gangstas and rap videos the bar gave off a very welcoming feel. DSC_0214 Every bar in Goldengai has a specific theme with a distinct local clientele that frequent it. DSC_0219 Rather ironically The Ghetto attracts a lot of celebrity actors. Lining the walls are photos of many of them including, to my great amusement, the voice actress of Ash from Pokemon. DSC_0233

When you're in the Shinjuku area make sure to try out the Spicy Chicken wings... really. Even a good Ninja needs to splurge on some deliciousness. DSC_0171 Learning The Neishon hands. DSC_0175 DSC_0179

Heshdawgz

DSC_0111 While walking along the side streets of Omotesando we came across this jewel of a store. Started and run by friends, Heshdawgz sets itself apart from the many fashion boutiques around the area. Carrying hard to find (in Japan) merchandise its atmosphere is welcoming and warm. When you're in the Tokyo area shopping around, this is a definite must. DSC_0116 Pay homage to the King. DSC_0114 DSC_0121 DSC_0124 DSC_0123 Make sure to say The Neishon sent you.
