What's up Neishon.
It took me a while to get to writing, but here's to a long tradition of keeping you updated on what happens across the pond - be it musically, culturally or culinary, London has a lot to offer to ninja's in all walks of life.
Quick introduction: ninja since birth, Neishon since 2009, b-boy forever. I was asked to compare scenes and show you ninja-worthy stuff here... Here's the first post, hope you enjoy it!
Dubstep... Where do I start? A far cry from the druggy warehouse parties the whole scene once started with in the dodgier parts of London, it's become a billion dollar rave industry for a (mostly) American audience that not too long ago wrote off most electronic sounds as Eurotrash.
The pop takeover of distorted basslines has definitely had its ups and downs over the past years. Purists go as far as to declare the genre dead after Britney Spears hired a dubstep producer to work on her album, but ecstatic crowds all over the world continue to prove the relevance of the wobble.
Fresh as total sonic warfare still is in America, the British underground has long forgotten about the brutal drops and stabs and is striving for new and exciting soundscapes. Rustie is a perfect example of this new breed of experimental electro producers, but unlike his more introspective and deeper contemporaries, he goes all out with high-pitched vocal samples, soaring cartoon synths and generous scoops of bubblegum bass. Some might say he's walking the fine line between pop sensibility and experimental bravery - it's a far cry from Skrillex, but just as likely to make you jump around. Oh yeah, and you can hum along to it.
Next week, I'll be seeing what Joy Orbison and Michael Mayer get up to in East London... Peace ninja's!
What's up Ninjas!
Got another exciting event for you this weekend! Passion Pit is coming out for a Dj set, and we want all you Ninjas to come out!
Passion Pit has been making moves since back in 2008 when the lead singer first recorded a song for his girlfriend in Boston. With a unique and catchy pop sound, combined with an electronic background and piercing vocals, Passion Pit has developed a following around the world. And this Sunday Jan 22, we'll have them here for you to enjoy!
Details: Sunday Jan 22, Drai's Hollywood, Dim Mak Records, Ninja Neishon.
What's going on Ninjas,
Working a lot on some new projects and events! Kayo stopped by and we're getting a lot of the ideas on paper. Always a good way to start.
Check out his new project Who Killed The Cat.
What's up Ninjas,
This Friday Pigeon John and NOCANDO will be performing out in Whittier.
Pigeon John is an LA based hip hop benchmark and will definitely put on a good show. We've watched him before back in SD and it's definitely a party.
NOCANDO is one of the homies from over at Low End Theory and Alpha Pup Records. It's mind boggling how he comes up with his freestyles.
It's looking to be a good party. If you're looking to head out, hit up Dj Krup and he'll help you out.
Who's ready for tonight Ninjas?
We made some prototypes out of clay the other day...
Maybe we should stick with clothing for awhile.
